We are often asked about caffeine levels in our tea.  Natural tea leaves do have some caffeine.  Dr. Lee explains it like this: Tea has less caffeine than coffee.  Our green tea has less caffeine than black tea, and less caffeine than most of the green teas which have not been decaffeinated.  The strength of the product and the brew time do have an effect on the amount of caffeine extracted.

Recent research shows that some caffeine in the natural products is beneficial to health. Various studies claim that caffeine can help fight Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other diseases. See http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/271707.php .

In the past, TeaForHealth® has not been tested for caffeine levels because Dr. Lee does not considered the effects to be that significant.  In fact, the FDA has officially allowed our tea the first and only qualified green tea health claim pursuant to the February 23, 2012 Memorandum Decision of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.  You can read it here:

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) pharmacodynamics data, daily consumption of 1200 ml (40 ounces) of green tea containing 710 mcg/ml (-) EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) is equivalent to 1.5 times the lowest effective anticancer dose in a 153lb. person.

We suggest that if you have caffeine concerns, you have some options.  Drink the tea earlier in the day.  We follow Dr. Lee’s advice and drink 3 cups a day – two at breakfast and one at lunch.  You might also start out with one cup and gradually build to 3.  Perhaps brew the tea a little less time or use a little less than a level teaspoon.  Experiment until you come up with the right formula for you.

We sometimes get comments from clients that they are using another brand of green tea that is as good or better than Dr. Lee’s TeaForHealth. Maybe they have found a better price. We simply ask them to find out the EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate – a powerful anti-oxidant) content of that tea. We have also followed up ourselves by researching the companies they provide. Unfortunately, even when we’ve contacted those companies, to date, none have been able to state the EGCG levels in their product.
We are proud to state that our EGCG levels are never less than 7.1% and we believe that to be the highest standard of any green tea. Our tea is tested at harvest and again by an independent laboratory during packaging for to verify EGCG levels and to be sure the tea is pesticide and contaminant free. That’s how we know our claims are validated.

Dr. Lee’s TeaForHealth® is known for its high antioxidant value – as much as 500% more EGCG than other green teas.  We often get asked about the shelf life of our tea.  The claim on our packaging is (7.1%) 710 EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate), a powerful anti-oxidant.  After harvest, our tea is sealed in 4.4 oz vacuum bags with nitrogen flushing, which greatly slows the degradation process.  To make sure we observe the highest standards, we test samples of current and previous batches.  Our 2015 tests showed remarkable results.  Bags from as far back as 2009 stored at temperatures as high as 76 degrees still had a minimum of 8.71% EGCG.  That’s far higher than our standard 7.1% (710) EGCG claim.  So, if you have some older sealed bags that have been stored in relatively dry, cool conditions it’s likely that you will still get the expected value from drinking the tea.  That’s not to say that Dr. Lee’s recommendation of 3 cups per day should be ignored.  www.Tea-For-Health.com.
